Beaches in New Plymouth
There are three good beach locations in New Plymouth, depending on what you’re looking for. If you want to go surfing, boogey boarding, etc in the waves, East End Beach and Fitzroy Beach are the places to go (they are also within a short walk of each other, and from the house). If you want to go for a swim or to a more sheltered beach, you should go to Ngamotu Beach. East End Beach and Fitzroy Beach are an easy walk from Molesworth Street, while Ngamoutu Beach is a short 5 minute drive away.
Beach Towels
There are a lot of beach towels available for use in the linen cupboard (there are linen cupboards downstairs next to the toilet, and upstairs in the cupboard at the top of the stairs). Feel free to use them when you go to the beach.
Beach Safety
If you’re swimming, please be aware that surf conditions can be deceptively dangerous. It is always best to swim between the flags at patrolled beaches. Fitzroy beach and East End beach are both patrolled over the summer months.
Fitzroy Beach / East End Beach

You can get to Fitzroy beach and East End Beach by car or by walking from the house. As noted above, if you plan to swim, check the surf lifeguards schedule. The map below shows walking directions (and, note that it walks right past East End Beach):
If you would rather drive to Fitzroy Beach, you can drive five minutes down the road and park in the following location:

The Kiosk Cafe
The map above shows the walk to ‘The Kiosk’, a cafe that does coffees and other snacks. It’s a nice place to visit if you’re going for a walk along the beach.

Ngamotu Beach

Ngamotu Beach is a nice sheltered beach, as it is located down by the port. It is a short drive from Molesworth Street, and there is plenty of parking available. The map below shows the location of Ngamotu Beach:
